Here and Now: Bail for Illegal Immigrants

Prop 100 denies bail to illegal immigrants arrested on serious felonies. But fingers began pointing after a migrant arrested for serious crimes was transferred from jail to immigration agents and deported. The man came back and allegedly murdered an East Valley man.

Here and Now sorts through the rhetoric to find out what happened and what's being done to prevent something like this from happening again.

Re: Here and Now: Bail for Illegal Immigrants

Are there any statistics as to how many illegal immigrants jumped bail and fled over the years.
When did the old bail policy begin and why?
I was suprised to learn that that bail was being given in the first place.
Common sense would tell you that an illegal immigrant would flee to their homeland rather than take their chances on jail and then be deported.

Re: Here and Now: Bail for Illegal Immigrants

I am not sure if my first comment was received so I am asking it again.

##############################

When did the original policy of granting bail to illegals begin and why.

What total numbers and percentage of illegals granted bail actually fled.

Common sense would tell us that an illegal accused of a serious crime would jump bail rather than face jail and then deportation.

It frightens me that our policy makers can't agree on such a simple concept to protect the citizens of the state.

Thanks
Don

Uninsured Motorists

Govenor Napolitano,
Arizona drivers are paying high insurance premiums to be covered against uninsured motorists. Such coverage is designed to garner greater revenue for insurance companies presumably because of the prevalence of uninsured drivers. It is patently unfair to law abiding drivers. A vehicle can be equated to a deadly weapon and the use of such as potentially dangerous to the well being of others. Liability insurance is therefore a small and responsible way of mitigating that danger.

1. Why doesn't the state implement and strongly enforce the mandatory revocation of drivers licenses where uninsured motorists are found to lack liability coverage ??

2. Why doesn't the state implement procedures to discover those who are without liability coverage ??

I'm keenly interested in your view on this issue.
Thank you.
