Here and Now: Novelist J.A. Jance

Judith Jance is an Arizona success story. She was told that writing was for men when she was denied entry into the University of Arizona's creating writing program in the mid 1960's. But that didn't deter her from writing more than two dozen novels with her latest, Fire and Ice, among the top ten books listed on the New York Times best seller list.

Jance's characters are based in areas she knows well, Arizona and Seattle, where she lives most of the year.

Have a question about how she comes up with plots for the likes of Sheriff Joanna Brady or retired cop J.P. Beaumont? We'll ask as many listener questions as we can get in.

First, I would like to thank J.A. Jance for all the great stories, and all the times I've picked up one of her books, and did not put it down until it was finished....forget the housework! :) Do you know any one in law enforcement? I guess my question is where did you learn about law enforcement? Thanks again for the stories.

I seldom read fiction unless I think I will learn something by reading it. Tony Hillerman always taught me about the physical reservation, the weather, the culture and many other details. Have you been influenced by Hillerman?
