Arizona Supreme Court

The AZ Supreme Court plays a pivital role in a number of high profile issues...the death penalty, the state's clean election law, pornography in public libraries and other free speech issues. Also...we’ll talk about Arizona’s judicial merit selection process. In this hour of Here and Now, we welcome Chief Justice Charles Jones and Vice Chief Justice Ruth McGregor.

Re: Arizona Supreme Court

Although Clean Money is attempted to level the playing field when it comes to elections, given states' limited resources, won't Clean Money candidates still get outspent by wealthy, self-financed candidates who do not need to fundraise and can spend as much as they want; candidates like Ross Perot or Michael Huffington or Steve Forbes?

Ps. Justices Jones and McGregor, any comments on July 2004 Bar results? Patiently I wait ...

What powers do the justices feel that employee merit commissions have versus the government employer?

Re: Arizona Supreme Court

I have two questions....

How do the justices feel about mandatory sentencing? It seems an awful waste of talent to have judges basically just shuffling papers and no actually judging.

How does one go about finding a Judge's record? I never know who to vote for because - thankfully - I don't know who these people are. Why do we have to vote for them anyway?
