Here and Now - Homelessness & Food Banks
We've all seen the guys hanging out by freeway off ramps with signs reading 'Homeless VET.' And if you work in downtown Phoenix it's almost impossible to not be approached by someone begging for money. What you may not have seen is the hundreds of people--men, women and children--who line up each night outside Central Arizona Services looking for a place to sleep. Many have mental and behavioral conditions that will prevent them from ever gaining employment. But most are either down on their luck, addicted to drugs or alcohol or encountered an unforeseen circumstance. The economic downturn is causing more people to hit up food banks, but local agencies report donations are down. What's the impact? But more importantly, what's the solution? We'd like to hear from you. Post your ideas, observations, comments and questions below!

Hello Steve and guests.
I work in the mental health insurance business that has been developed under the Arnold-Sarn, and Jason K suits. I see that the reform ideas created from the suits have made Maricopa County a haven for abusers of AHCCCS by pushing professionals to diagnose symptoms as related to debilitating mental health conditions to avoid being sued, and unfortunately, to make profit.
