Here and Now: Governor Napolitano
What happens if lawmakers passed a $10.6 billion dollar budget and the governor signed it, but we don't have $10.6 billion dollars to spend? Talk about a big 'ooops!' That's the situation Arizona is in three months after the new budget kicked in. Revenue is now estimated to be $600 million less than originally projected, meaning something's got to give. But what? Governor Napolitano proposes cutting executive agency budgets by $100 million, save $300 million by switching to a lease-purchase approach to building schools, and raid $200 million from the rain-day fund. Get out your umbrella, because whatever lawmakers agree to, it may not be raining lollypops and gumdrops. What do you think? Jot your comment or question below. (A tip--the shorter the comment or question--the more likely it will be asked)

Hi Governor:
I guess you're going to be hosting another State sponsored revenge killing in November , and I was wondering: when you grease a prisoner, do you use a fresh needle, or do you re-use them and save the taxpayer a few extra bucks?

We at Kids Care have been told that our agency will probably be "privatized." (1) How does this affect the loyal state employees who currently staff these important and demanding jobs?; and more importantly, (2) Will privatization really facilitate Kids Care's mission of providing health insurance to Arizona's poorest children?
On Monday I had to have my Jeep tested for emissions to renew my registration. After testing I was told that my vehicle had been rejected because my on board computer lacked sufficient data to complete the testing. The solution was to drive more than I would normally to generate the necessary data. I'm wondering if the Governor finds it ironic that the Az Dept Of Environmental Quality is requiring motorists to drive more than they would otherwise to comply with their testing method. I would also like to ask the Governor if she is disturbed by notion that a State agency is accessing a computer that I own and downloading data that describes my personal behavior without my express consent or knowledge.
thanks
hey gov, u're doing a great job and u'll always have my vote. my question is why can't navy corpsmen take the lpn/lvn nursing exam in this state, army and air force medics can take it but navy corpsmen can't take it. now if there's such a great nursing shortage why would navy vets be excluded from taking the test??? ty gov and u're doing a great job
Dear Governor-
Growing up in Arizona has rooted me to this state like nothing else could, however I fear for Arizona's and the greater Southwests' future. We continue to use water as if we have an unending supply - we do not. I've seen with my own young eyes the falling water tables, especially in the high country (Prescott). Recent growth is completely unsustainable in the long run. What do you plan to do in the future to mitigate the coming water crisis?
Good Morning Governor,
I am a home owner in the Valley, and like many homeowners, the majority of my retirement nest-egg resides with the value of my home.
I am concerned that developers have gained a stranglehold on the State legislature and continue to build and build and build with no regard to water supplies. I fear my home value will plummet when we finally realize that the water supply can not keep up and I will lose hundreds of thousands of dollars of my retirement as the housing market becomes ruined in Arizona.
This does not even speak to the moral and ethical obligation we have to our native rivers and beautiful open space that is being consumed at one-acre per minute.
When is enough, enough, and how do you intend to address this issue.
"Sustainable growth" is not the answer. Nothing can grow forever in a world of finite resources.
Thank You,
Jeff Servoss
Given that Arizona has so much sunshine, why not implement a program for every home to have solar power? Arizona could the largest contributer for solar energy. We could feed energy back into the grid for other places. To me, that would be such a wonderful way for us to capitalize on one of our resources.
Please comment on efforts to expand desalinization (Yuma area plane). Water is our biggest concern. Thanks
We are putting in Solar. With the tax breaks, it is still costing 20K. Is there a way we can sell municipal bonds to help those who cannot afford out of pocket expenses such as these? SRP said that we are one of VERY few people using the tax credit. We are excited to help. How can we help those who need an easier payment schedule?
I am an Arizona native who has been through many many governors, and I just want to say that never have I been proud of my governor, but I sure am now! Governor, you are so smart, so wise, so on the ball and so motivated by what is right. I have never felt so confident in my government as I have since you have been in office. Thank you! Thank you! Will I ever get to vote for you for president?
Arizona is the one of the top states for solar power yet our tax incentive rebate is among the lowest. Why?
