Chandler Volunteers Pack Supplies To Send Overseas For World Refugee Day

Volunteers packed large containers with resources needed to support refugees living in camps around the world on Saturday.

World Refugee Day is observed every year on June 20 to honor those who have fled war, persecution and human rights abuses.

The Helping Hand for Relief and Development office in Chandler was full of volunteers on Saturday.

Charles Shipman oversees the Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program. He visited the office where people were packing large containers with resources needed to support refugees living in camps around the world.

Arizona Teachers Collect 5,000 More Signatures For Investments In Education

Educators scattered across the Valley Saturday, carrying petitions to get the Invest in Education Act funding measure on the ballot in November. When they reconvened at the Capitol, they had collected over 5,500 signatures.

Joe Thomas is president of the Arizona Education Association. He said Governor Doug Ducey’s plan to increase teacher salaries by 20 percent by 2020 isn’t enough.
