Legislation that would automatically adjust state tax brackets every year to account for inflation is to get its first hearing before a House Committee on Thursday.

The measure is similar to a bill approved by lawmakers but vetoed by then-Gov. Jan Brewer two years ago. State Rep. Justin Olson is attempting to prevent taxpayers from having a small raise push them into a higher tax bracket.

Brewer rejected Olson’s bill two years ago, saying it would have cost Arizona $11 million in revenue. She recommended adjustments after the budget has been reviewed each year.

Brewer did sign a one-time adjustment in the brackets during last year’s legislative session.

Current Gov. Doug Ducey called for automatic adjustments in his State of the State address.
