Gov. Doug Ducey on Tuesday appointed a former Republican lawmaker to an open seat on the state commission that regulates utilities.

The governor named Justin Olson to the vacant seat on the Arizona Corporation Commission. That seat had been empty since last month, when Doug Little stepped down to take a job with the U.S. Department of Energy.

Olson served in the Legislature from 2011 until the beginning of this year.

Olson chaired the House Appropriations Committee in his last term and currently works as a tax analyst. He will serve out the remainder of the term, which expires in January 2019.
