U.S. Sen. John McCain has been a spoiler for the Republican effort to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Last week, he announced that he could not in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal.

On Sunday, McCain spoke about his own health issues. He spoke frankly about his reaction to his doctor’s "very poor prognosis" of his cancer diagnosis on CBS’s "60 Minutes."

“I just said, ‘I understand. Now, we’re going to do what we can, get the best doctors we can find. And do the best we can.’ And at the same time, celebrate with gratitude, a life well lived,” McCain said.

McCain underwent surgery in July for a brain tumor that was later found to be a form of glioblastoma.

McCain has announced he will continue to work and receive treatments at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland.
