Former Arizona Gaming Director To Challenge Horne For Attorney General

September 27, 2013

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne will have competition for the GOP nomination in next year’s Republican primary.

Former Arizona Gaming Director Mark Brnovich has filed paperwork to run against Horne, less than a week after stepping down from his post.

At the time of his resignation letter, Brnovich said he had not decided whether to challenge Horne, but the Arizona Capitol Times reports he believes state residents want an attorney general who has integrity, character and a commitment to do the right thing.

Horne has faced a number of ethical problems in the last year and a half. He’s currently awaiting results of an investigation by the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office into charges he illegally coordinated with an independent expenditure committee during his 2010 campaign.

Brnovich previously worked for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Arizona, as well as spending four years as a judge pro tempore in Maricopa County.
