U.S. Senators Reintroduce Latest Version Of Dream Act

The Dream Act, which would provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who entered the country at a young age, was first introduced in Congress in 2001. Despite repeated efforts and numerous close calls, it has never passed.

On Thursday, Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham and Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin reintroduced the latest version of the legislation. And Graham credited longtime Senate ally John McCain as his inspiration for first getting involved in the issue of immigration reform.

“I got involved because when John ran for president in 2000, he wanted to fix a broken immigration system, because he is from Arizona and he sees the downside of illegal immigration," Graham said.

Graham said McCain, who is resting at his Arizona home following a blood-clot surgery and brain-tumor diagnosis, called him three times Thursday morning, saying no more “woe is me,” and that Graham needs to “buck up” in his absence.
