Scam Asks People To Pay Utility Bills Over The Phone

Police in Mesa are investigating a scam they say appears to be spreading across Arizona. Detective Steve Berry explains it involves your electrical service.

“They had received phone calls from an individual saying that they were behind on their bill and that if they didn’t go get a cash card of some sort and provide that number and information over the phone, that their utilities would be turned off,” Berry said.

The scam has also been reported by the two major valley power companies SRP and APS. Berry says in Mesa only one person has responded to the callers but that person was victimized.
