3 Arizona-Run Power Plants Are Among 50 Dirtiest In The Nation

September 16, 2013

According to a new report by an environmental advocacy group, the Navajo Generating Station, the Four Corners Power Plant, and the Springerville Generating Station were ranked 10th, 15th and 34th dirtiest in the country for 2011.Cronkite News says the report measures the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by each power plant.

SRP officials are calling the Navajo Generating Station’s high ranking misleading, saying it only emits so much carbon dioxide because it produces a lot of power.

But the report says that is not true and that the amount of carbon pollution is disproportionate to the energy produced.
