Reagan Exploring Secretary Of State Candidacy

August 28, 2013

A Republican state lawmaker is now officially exploring a possible candidacy for secretary of state. Scottsdale state Sen. Michele Reagan had formed an exploratory committee for her candidacy in December then left the paperwork blank on which office she planned to pursue. The Arizona Capitol Times said that changed Tuesday with a new filing from Reagan. The secretary of state oversees the Arizona election system and serves as governor-in-waiting, provided the office becomes vacant.

Other Republicans either running or considering bids for secretary of state include Mesa businessman Wil Cardon and Mesa Rep. Justin Pierce. Incumbent Ken Bennett is barred from running again because of term limits.

The next secretary of state will be elected in November 2014.
