Progress is being made in the Mountain Peak Community Church cleanup.

A Phoenix church that was flooded during the recent storm is preparing for Sunday service — without its worship room. The congregation is gearing up for new accommodations.

When the rain came down Monday, Mountain Park Community Church’s auditorium, where services were held, filled up with water. Much of the furniture and equipment were destroyed.

But the flood water didn’t dampen worshippers enthusiasm. The church will host a third service on Sunday evening to reduce the number of parishioners who attend the two morning services — estimated at about 900 each. The church will hold services in the church lobby and gymnasium.

“We’re going to have to ask for a ton of grace and patience while we figure this all out, at least for the first few weeks. But we’ve got to figure a system so that we can continue with the ministry God’s calling us to do here," said Allan Fuller, the senior pastor of Mountain Park Church.

Fuller said a high school and other local churches have offered their space for services. He says it could be well into 2015 before Mountain Park’s worship auditorium is fully restored.
