Conway's Climb To Trump Counselor Not Unique For Consultants

The Trump administration has been very clear in its efforts to fight — and even undermine — traditional media outlets and news sources.

One of the people who has been especially out front as a voice for the administration in that vein is Kellyanne Conway, currently counselor to President Trump.

It was quite a climb for Conway, as a recent conversation on NPR’s Morning Edition between Host Rachel Martin and Molly Ball of The Atlantic indicated.

That progression isn’t necessarily unique for political consultants, but I wanted to get the perspective of an Arizonan who had a fairly similar trajectory on the local level.

Chuck Coughlin, president of HighGround Consulting, has worked for U.S. Sen. John McCain and former Gov. Fife Symington, but he became especially influential with former Gov. Jan Brewer.

Coughlin is with me to talk about political communication and moving up the ladder in political consulting.
