Going to athletic events could cost University of Arizona students more next year.

School administrators are proposing a new athletics fee to support athletics programs and facilities as part of its tuition proposal for the 2017-18 school year.

University officials said the new fee would cost $100 for incoming undergraduate students and $50 for incoming graduate students, although the grad students could opt out.

Officials said the fee would support athletics facilities and operations.

It would also allow undergraduate students to attend all sports games for free, except football and men's basketball.

The athletics fee is in addition to $250 in other fees and a tuition increase that will bring the tuition cost for a new in-state student to more than $12,000 a year.

The fees and tuition hike will be voted on by the Arizona Board of Regents next month.
