Arizona Gov. Ducey: GOP Plan To Replace ACA Is Flawed

Gov. Doug Ducey said the Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act is flawed and should not be enacted as written.

Ducey said he has concerns with the bill that’s being pushed by U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan.

Specifically, Ducey said he worries the plan is too rigid and he’s also concerned about people losing coverage. Despite those concerns, Ducey said he’s confident Ryan’s proposal will evolve.

"Because we do have an audience with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, with leaders in Congress. We're advocating on behalf of Arizona," Ducey said. "I think you're going to see a different bill if it does get out of the House, if it does get out of the Senate, than the bill you see today."

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office found that 14 million people would lose healthcare coverage in the first year alone. Older Americans would be hit too, because the plan shrinks the tax credits they use to buy insurance and allows insurers to charge people more as they age.
