Gov. Doug Ducey said he doesn’t want to raise taxes. Instead, he’s asking the Trump administration to help Arizona deal with many of its financial woes.

Gov. Ducey submitted a wish list consisting of more than $500 million in projects to the White House.

Most of his requests would go toward upgrades to the state’s roadways. But he also wants money to test for lead in water at schools, cap open wells, even upgrade the town of Jerome’s water system.

Ducey said he is not relying on Washington to solve the state’s money problems.

"Those are our dollars that are back in Washington, D.C. We have an administration that thinks that they're better spent at the state level and that states should be able to prioritize their projects," Ducey said.

State lawmakers had proposed an increase in the state gas tax to raise additional funding, but the chairperson refused to hear the measure in the Ways and Means Committee, effectively killing it.
