“Don’t mess with Texas!” No, that’s obviously not one of Arizona Department of Transportation’s road signs — but it was a slogan the Texas DOT came up with for their anti-litter campaign. And boy was it a hit.

The phrase went viral, you’ve probably heard it — and this was before Twitter. So now our own DOT, known for some pretty clever signs in the past, is hoping you can add to their journey toward driver safety.

As we had mentioned to you on this program, ADOT opened up the field in a contest for you to submit your own potentially-famous safety slogans, and the results are in. After over 6700 submissions, the 20 finalists include, “Use your thinker, turn on that blinker,” “That’s the temperature, not the speed limit!” and “Single in H-O-V? Get a real date, not a court date.”

Oh, and there’s one more we should mention. KJZZ’s Katherine Fritcke, our Morning Edition producer, made the cut! And she’s here with us now. Katherine, welcome.

Online voting ends March 15. The winner will be announced in April.
