ADOT: More Than 7,000 Slogans Already Submitted In Safety-Sign Contest

When the Arizona Department of Transportation decided to let the public submit a clever slogan for one of its many electronic signs, the agency had no idea the ideas would pour in.

ADOT has already received more than 7,000 submissions since the contest launched earlier this month, and there are still a few more days to go before the contest ends.

Then, comes the hard part.

"We want to start the voting on March 1, so that gives us about 10 days to go through however many thousand submissions we get," said Doug Pacey of ADOT.

Pacey won’t give a preview of what’s to come except to say, "we’ve gotten a lot that are really clever, really creative, things that have made me laugh and things that have made me think, ‘why didn’t I think of that?'”

Pacey says he and other employees have already gone through a few thousand entries. The winning message will appear on the digital signs for two days in April. He also says because of the volume of submissions, they’ll use some of the runner-ups throughout the year.
