A menorah that was being displayed in a front yard in Chandler for Hannukah was found twisted into the shape of a swastika on Friday, police said.

Chandler police are investigating, but no arrests have been made yet.

Investigators are asking neighbors if they saw anything and are looking at surveillance video of the incident.

A Chandler police spokesman said the incident is being investigated as a felony trespassing case and that it is not up to the police to designate what is or is not a hate crime.

In a statement on Facebook yesterday, Naomi Ellis, the mom who made the menorah out of PVC pipes with her family, said she broke into tears while waiting for police to arrive after it was discovered.

She said the police helped her take it down before her kids woke up.

"I’m still not sure how I will explain this to them," Eliis wrote.
