The Maricopa County Education Service Agency will be getting $60 million from the federal education department to focus on teacher recruitment and retention.

The state has had a teacher shortage for a while now. A recent survey showed districts had more than 8,000 openings at the beginning of this school year.

For more on this grant and the impact it may have, KJZZ's The Show spoke with Lori Renfro, the assistant superintendent for human capital management systems at the Maricopa County Education Service Agency. Part of her job is to oversee the implementation of teacher incentive fund grants.
