School is back in session, which means students are back to hitting the books. And, increasingly, authors of books for young adults are addressing an issue some students and their parents would maybe rather not think about: school shootings.

ASU professor Jim Blasingame has been reading up on this emerging genre. He’s also executive director of the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of the National Council of Teachers of English.
