Wildfire risk shifts through summer season

State forestry officials are gearing up for what they expect will be an 'average' wildfire season this summer. Fire Information Officer Carrie Dennett says though, wildfires in the West have increased in severity over the last few years.

“We do get non-native grasses that come into desert regions and you can see that a lot in Southern Arizona, and so we’ve got deserts now that do carry fire,” Dennett said.

Dennett says the wildfire danger will increase in southeastern Arizona first, and move toward the northwest.
