The University of Arizona is taking steps to become more competitive for students in the face of lagging demand for traditional law degrees.

It’s the second time in as many years the university has cut tuition for nonresidents.  The latest cut means U of A will be a better buy than a dozen of its counterpart law schools across the country.

Beginning this fall, nonresidents who paid more than $42,000 in tuition last year, will pay $29,000, a 30 percent rate cut. In-state tuition will remain about the same, at $24,400.

The Arizona Daily Star says the rate drop leaves the U of A law school with the cheapest nonresident tuition of any of its 15 peer schools, all of which charge $10,000 to $30,000 more per year.

ASU will charge nonresident law students $41,7000 this fall, nearly $13,000 more than U-of-A.
