For years, Apple has made its product launches into huge events with media members wanting to be the first to see the new phone or mp3 player and report on and review it.

One of those happened earlier this week, but does that put journalists in an odd position? Are they giving the company free advertisement, even if they're not covering the launch in strictly positive terms?
