Baker Canyon Fire is burning about 30 miles northeast of Douglas.

The Baker Canyon Fire burning in southeastern Arizona has grown to 5,300 acres. The fire about 30 miles northeast of Douglas has grown from 150 acres since it was first reported Monday.

Delores Garcia with the Bureau of Land Management said fire fighters are optimistic after the fire’s recent movement.

“Fortunately, the fire behavior and the winds that we did get, pushed the fire into some areas with less vegetation and fuel. And really helped the fire fighters get an upper hand on just gaining some containment on the fire itself,” she said.

The fire burning mostly grass and brush has been fueled by strong winds and low humidity.

Garcia said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
