Rickie Fowler hit into the water twice on the 17th hole to give Hideki Matsuyama a shot at a playoff, where he won an unexpected and dramatic victory yesterday in the Waste Management Phoenix Open in front of record crowds the TPC Scottsdale.

The week’s total attendance of more than 618,000 fans shattered the tournament record.

Phoenix Open chairman Dan Mahoney says that’s a testament to the event's success in the Valley. "There’s a reason why we’re called the people’s major. It’s really about the uniqueness of our community and our event.”

The tournament drew an estimated 201,003 fans Saturday, a one-day record.
