Invasive fish have found their way into Arizona’s waterways for years. Now a newly discovered species could pack a serious bite.
Diamondbacks Travel Down Under To Start The Season
The Arizona Diamondbacks will take part in the first regular-season game ever played in Australia.
After leaving late Sunday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks are landing on what will be Tuesday morning in Sydney, Australia. They will play the Los Angeles Dodgers in a two-game series to open the season.
First, each American team will play the Australian national baseball team in exhibition games. The official Major League Baseball series between the Diamondbacks and Dodgers begins Saturday.
All four games will be held at the Sydney Cricket Grounds. MLB field experts have been working with local curators to transform the cricket pitch for baseball. Officials are expecting a sellout crowd of about 40,000 people for both major league games.
The D-Backs were at a disadvantage before the they even left Arizona. The pitcher who had been scheduled to start in the opening game, Patrick Corbin, injured his throwing arm during Spring Training. He could need Tommy John surgery and sit out for the rest of the season.
In the meantime, Arizona has tapped Wade Miley to replace him in the opening game against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.
