Students arrive on the first day of school at Sonoran Foothills School in Phoenix.

Companies will now be able to advertise at Deer Valley Unified schools. Earlier this week, the governing board changed policy to allow some organizations to market on campuses.

The Deer Valley Unified School District lost more than $4 million in funding this year due to state education cuts. The district added athletic participation fees and increased parking costs to try and soften the blow.

District spokeswoman Monica Allread said this change in advertising policy may entice more organizations to donate services.

“In these financially challenging times thoughtful mutually beneficial partnerships are not only desired but necessary. And so this policy was written to promote those partnerships," Allread said.

The district has an override up for election this November. If it passes, the district will have an additional $8 million to put towards retaining teachers and extracurricular activities.
