Arizona falls behind almost every other state when it comes to adults getting vaccinated against the flu. That is according to the Trust for America’s Health interest group that said only 27 percent of Arizonans between 18 years old and 64 years old get a flu shot. Doctor Lisa Villarroel from the Arizona Department of Public Health said access to health care along with a challenging age group are to blame.

"It’s hardest to get that age group in to see their physician. Either they’re not connected with the physician or they feel young and healthy and don’t need to have a physician, but not having a physician and not getting the flu shot seems to run together," Villarroel said.

Villorroel said Arizona DPH has tried making it easier to get flu shots. Since 2009, pharmacies can give the flu vaccination.
