Writing a series of novels takes a lot of creativity, skill and luck. And when you’re picking up someone else’s characters and style, that increases the challenges.

Scottsdale resident Grant Blackwood experienced success with his “Briggs Tanner” series, but now he’s taking over the late Tom Clancy’s protagonist Jack Ryan Jr. in the new book “Under Fire.”

We spoke with Blackwood.
