Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne says a woman’s conviction for defrauding the state’s Medicaid system, AHCCCS, by claiming she had leukemia, should be a message to everyone who might be thinking about cheating the system.

“This is one of many examples where we are proceeding aggressively to prosecute anybody who defrauds AHCCCS to protect the taxpayers,” Horne said.

Horne says Natasha Leatherman has admitted she lied to Yavapai County Health officials about being sick to fuel her drug addiction. He says he worries there could be more such cases in the future, because of the increased number of people seeking benefits under the Affordable Care Act.
