Jessica Rigler with Arizona Department of Health Service said over 900 new cases were reported in just the last week. “We typically don’t see that many reported in a week," said Rigler, "So we’re over 100% more reported this week than in this same week last season."

Judge Pares Down Havasupai Student Lawsuit
A federal judge has ruled on a lawsuit that accuses the U.S. Bureau of Indian Education of failing to provide for Havasupai students with special needs and other claims. Attorneys for several students want to force the Bureau of Indian Education to provide a thorough curriculum, culturally relevant education and staff training to respond to trauma.

Better Your Bowl: Phoenix Looking At Rebate Program For Toilets
The Phoenix City Council this month approved a list of water conservation measures in an effort to reduce water use from 169 to 155 gallons per capita per day by the year 2030. Fourteen proposals came out of the work of an ad hoc water conservation committee. The only committee proposal rejected by the council was a $10,000 contest to redesign the fountain in front of Phoenix City Hall.

Final Elections Manual Cuts Item That Settled Navajo Nation Lawsuit
Arizona now has a new Elections Procedures Manual, but it has a significant change from the draft version. Attorney General Mark Brnovich, who has to approve the manual, said there was no legal authority for a "curing" period for early ballots without a signature.

Goodyear Fires Police Chief For Policy Violations
The city of Goodyear fired Police Chief Jerry Geier on Friday. Geier was placed on administrative leave in October while he was under investigation for policy violations. City spokesperson Tammy Vo says the decision to terminate Geier came at the conclusion of that investigation.

The Hopi Tribe is vetting a group that has proposed an idea that could generate revenue, jobs and electricity for the tribe. Photographer Weighs In On Closure Of Canyon To Photo Tours
Upper Antelope Canyon, on the Navajo Nation in northern Arizona, will still have regular tours, but not photo-specific ones, and visitors will no longer be allowed to bring tripods.
