Amy Nelson - Part 3: The Truman InterviewAt twenty six, Margaret Truman, daughter of President Harry Truman, began a nationwide concert tour in January 1950. Amy Nelson interviewed Margaret Truman on a cold, snowy afternoon at the Hotel Syracuse. A WAGE engineer recorded the interview for broadcast with a new innovation: the wire recorder. Later, Nelson transferred the sound to an electrical transcription disc, or ET, and saved a copy for posterity. She wrote about the experience shortly after the interview.

Amy Nelson - Part 2: Housework ScientistsDuring the post World War II era, new products were hitting the shelves daily… a consumer culture was being created and women were doing the buying. Housework was being revolutionized and becoming kind of a "science." Amy Nelson broadcast many tips for women on how to do a better job at making homes for their families, and interviewed "experts" on new products for the home.

Amy Nelson - Part 1: The New LookSixty years ago, Amy Nelson hosted a daily radio program on WAGE, the ABC affiliate in Syracuse, New York. She brought listeners the latest "news for women," including not only recipes and household tips, but plenty of information about health, the arts, politics, and public affairs. It was a time when radio truly served the needs of the local community. Nelson lives in Scottsdale now…but remembers her radio days as if they were yesterday.
