Bisbee has become Arizona’s first town to recognize civil unions, after the city council last night approved an ordinance, on a 5-2  vote. The Arizona attorney general has said he will sue to try and block it.

The Tucson Unified School District is on the hunt for a new superintendent. The TUSD’s governing board approved the search Tuesday night. The Arizona Daily Star reports, the district will use an external firm to conduct the national search.

TUCSON, Ariz. — After serving most of his life behind bars, 59-year-old Louis Taylor walked out of the Arizona State Prison in Tucson a free man Tuesday. He was 16 years old when he was convicted of starting a 1970 Tucson hotel fire that killed dozens of people.

Mohave County has given the green light to workers who want to carry guns into its administration building in Kingman. The Board of Supervisors passed the measure Monday, only a few weeks after allowing the public to take guns into all county buildings after a three-year ban.

The Border Patrol is warning of the dangers of crossing the Arizona desert as temperatures shoot up this month. Spokesman Brent Cagen says there were 177 deaths in the southern Arizona desert last year and that border crossers are faced with many hazards.

A major producer of frozen foods is recalling products distributed in Arizona and several other states because of concerns about E. coli contamination. The Arizona Senate on Monday gave preliminary approval to a bill that would ban cities and counties from destroying guns turned in at buybacks. That approval came after 18 Democratic attempts to amend the bill – all were unsuccessful.

Ozone is produced when heat and sunlight interact with vehicle emissions and other chemicals in the air, so the long, hot days of summer are prime conditions for producing elevated ozone levels.

A man convicted of setting the Tucson Pioneer Hotel fire that killed dozens of people more than 40 years ago is expected to be set free Tuesday. Louis Taylor was 16 years old when he was convicted of setting the fire.
