The Obama administration said it will open new detention facilities to house immigrant families caught crossing the United States border illegally. The spot for one has already been chosen in southern New Mexico.
Public recreation areas in Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona will close early in July and will stay closed throughout the rest of the summer. The closure is scheduled to start on July 7 to accommodate holiday travel, but will close earlier if the rain comes.
Arizona’s unemployment rate dropped slightly last month on a seasonally adjusted basis, but a separate survey of employers shows the number of people actually working in the private sector last month declined by 800 from the month before.
The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a measure that will extend the military’s A-10 jet program for another year. The proposal is co-sponsored by Arizona Rep. Ron Barber who wants to keep the jet flying at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
Another investigation is being launched into Attorney General Tom Horne’s office. The Arizona Citizens Clean Election Commission decided Thursday it will look into allegations that Horne and his employees did re-election campaign work at his office.
