Home prices in the Phoenix area increased by 22.7 percent in January making it the largest increase in the nation. CoreLogic’s report released today says the change represents the 11th consecutive month of national price increases.

Governor Jan Brewer says she does not believe the Department of Homeland Security needed to release illegal immigrants from federal detention centers.  Federal officials say the release of approximately 2,000 people, reportedly 300 of them in Arizona, was necessary because of automatic spending cuts forced by sequestration.

A House bill to outlaw the latest dangerous drug compounds continues to sail through the Arizona Legislature, earning unanimous approval Monday from the Senate Judiciary Committee.  The bill aimed at putting a dent into synthetic drug compounds by banning the 'backbone' chemicals, even if they're changed a little later.

The Arizona Senate has given its approval to a resolution allowing the state to challenge federal government orders.  It would allow the state to reject orders from Washington it believes are unconstitutional.

A report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that weekly wages in Yuma and La Paz counties are well below both the state and national average of $903.La Paz County averageis $604 while Yuma County's is $668.

The role of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s pink underwear policy could be back in court soon as part of a wrongful death case. The U.S. Supreme Court decided today not to hear an appeal by Arpaio, making a re-trial more likely.

More than 1,000 inmates at a state prison in Tucson remain on lockdown after a riot broke out Sunday. It’s the second fight involving prisoners at the prison within the past six months. State Corrections officials say the fight involved more than 400 inmates; 17 prisoners were injured and two prison staff members received minor wounds in the riot that involved Mexican-American, White and African-American prisoners.

The Food Research and Action Center reports that 21 percent of Arizonans say they lacked money to buy food at least once last year. That ranks Arizona 14th in the United States. FRAC President Jim Weill says the benefit levels of the SNAP, or food stamp program, aren’t high enough to enough to enable people to purchase enough food.

Cochise County sheriff's deputies say skeletal remains have been discovered in the ruins of a rural home that was discovered burned to the ground. They say a man spotted his neighbor's burned out home as he was passing by Saturday afternoon and told deputies the fire could have broken out anytime between Wednesday and when it was discovered Saturday.

An Arizona prison complex remains locked down Monday morning, after a fight early Sunday involving about 400 inmates. Corrections officials say they stopped the fighting fairly quickly but that a couple staffers and 17 inmates were injured.

The state of Arizona and Coconino County have both issued emergency declarations after the collapse of a section of US 89, south of Page, late last month. County spokesman Nathan Gonzales says the actions free up additional resources to start work on the 150-foot section of roadway that buckled and slid several feet down a mountainside.
