Arizona drivers are seeing
some relief at the gas pump, ahead of the Independence Day weekend, as prices
stabilized somewhat this week. The statewide average this morning is $3.50 a gallon,
up a little more than a penny from a week ago, but still 10 cents below the
national average of $3.
Patrol agents in southern Arizona
have arrested two Mexican nationals on drug smuggling charges. Spokesman Brent
Cagen says they found more than 930 pounds of marijuana in their vehicle, which
had a phony U.
battling the Doce Fire, west of Prescott,
say they have the blaze about 10 percent contained, at nearly 6,400 acres. Incident commander Tony Sciacca said forecasters are predicting a decline in
wind speeds near the fire, with an increase in humidity.

A man convicted of killing six people in Phoenix's "Serial Shooter" attacks has died in prison. Authorities say 40-year-old Dale Hausner was found unresponsive in his cell Wednesday afternoon. He was pronounced dead at a hospital about an hour later.

Hispanic origin groups have populations greater than 1 million. People of Mexican origin make up 65 percent of the U.
State Sen. Rich Crandall, one of the early Republican supporters of Medicaid expansion, looks back at the 2013 session. Crandall plans to leave in the middle of his two-year term to pursue other plans, including State Schools Superintendent in Wyoming, but Crandall said he may come out of retirement to support other GOP legislative moderates.
The issue of Medicaid expansion made the 2013 legislative session a contentious one, but Arizona Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Glenn Hamer and Childrens Action Alliance President and CEO Dana Naimark both give the legislature high marks for the expansion, increased funding for Child Protective Services and business-friendly bills.
