Valley commuters are seeing something new along a couple of Phoenix area freeways this morning. Arizona Department of Transportation opened new stretches of High Occupancy Vehicle lanes early this morning along the Loop 202 Santan Freeway in Chandler and the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in the Glendale & Peoria areas.

Senator Russell Pearce and challenger Jerry Lewis displayed contrasting styles in a Mesa Chamber of Commerce Debate.   The two are on the ballot in next month's recall election of Pearce.  The senator showcased his knowledge and tough nosed approach to policies while Lewis came across as a polite newcomer who vows to work with others.

November’s recall election is back down to two candidates…after Olivia Cortes withdrew from the race today.  In a statement, Cortes says, in part, quote…due to the constant intimidation and harassment of me, my family, friends, and neighbors I have decided to drop out of the race for state senator in LD 18.
