Mesa voters on Tuesday defeated Question 1, which would have added four-tenths of a percent to the city’s sales tax; the money would have gone to police and fire departments, as well as to help bring a five-acre ASU campus to downtown Mesa.
Peoria Proposition 400 would have permanently raised Peoria’s sales tax by four tenths of a cent, bringing in about $17 million more a year. Surprise’s $63 million bond would have funded nine different public service projects over the next five years.
The Industrial Commission of Arizona has levied a total of $13,000 in fines against three companies involved in a construction accident that occurred in June on the Bell Road overpass of Grand Avenue in Surprise.
Recreational marijuana legislation was victorious in several states this week, including Maine, Massachusetts, California and Nevada. But Arizona's Proposition 205, the recreational marijuana bill, has not been decided.
