The Arizona Senate has reversed itself and voted to approve a plan to revamp the retirement system for new elected officials and judges. On Tuesday, the Senate defeated the bill, but during the vote, Senate President Andy Biggs predicted it would pass before the end of the session.

The Federal Aviation Administration said some airport traffic control towers it wanted to close late at night to save money will now be allowed to stay open. But, Wednesday’s announcement does not save some towers at Arizona airports the FAA plans to close this summer.

The jury has spoken in the Jodi Arias trial. Arias has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of former boyfriend Travis Alexander.The trial that began Jan. 2 ended at 1:50 p.m. after 15 hours of jury deliberation.

 Governor Jan Brewer is remembering a Department of Public Safety officer, killed Monday night in the line of duty. Tim Huffman, a 14-year veteran of the force was killed in a chain reaction crash, while tending to a vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 8, east of Yuma.

The governor has signed legislation allowing medical marijuana onto university campuses, at least for research. The voter-approved medical marijuana law had stopped the efforts of physician Sue Sisley of the University of Arizona, who is looking at treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder among combat veterans.

The body of a Tucson man has been recovered after he was apparently stung to death by bees while hiking in the Santa Rita Mountains, north of Nogales. Lieutenant Raoul Rodriguez of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said the 55-year-old man was found hanging from his climbing gear on a cliff near Mount Hopkins.

The Tucson Unified School District will be giving pink slips to more than 150 employees. The district's Governing Board approved the layoffs Tuesday night. End of the year layoffs are common, but as the Arizona Daily Star reports, the number of employees being severed this year is more than in the past two years combined.

A 14-year veteran of the Department of Public Safety was killed Monday night when his patrol car was hit by a tanker truck in southwestern Arizona. The crash took place as three DPS officers were investigating an injury collision in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8, about 40 miles east of Yuma.
