Governor Jan Brewer has vetoed a bill that would
have removed the age limit of 45 for serving in the state militia. The militia is
a provision in the state constitution, but as Brewer noted in her veto letter,
it has never been established or funded.

All Tucson public employees will receive a raise. The Tucson City Council approved the 55-cent-an-hour increase this week. The hike is included in Tucson's 2014 budget. The Arizona Daily Star reports, the change will take effect no later than Jan.

Eighteen people have been indicted for allegedly stealing ten million dollars worth of raw copper from an Arizona mine. Two supervisors from the ASARCO mine were among the suspects. The thefts from the ASARCO mine near Hayden started as early as 2006, according to investigators.

A 14-year veteran of the Department of Public Safety was killed Monday night when his patrol car was hit by a tanker truck in southwestern Arizona. The crash took place as three DPS officers were investigating an injury collision in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 8, about 40 miles east of Yuma.
