Drug-trafficking ring in Tempe dismantled
Tempe police and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration say they have dismantled a drug-trafficking organization that was operating in Tempe.  From Phoenix, Jude Joffe-Block reports that law enforcement are saying the ring had links to the Mexican Sinaloa Cartel.

Maximum security prisoner plotted to kill fellow inmate, Arpaio
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says a maximum security prisoner arrested for plotting to kill another inmate also hoped to assassinate Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Detectives arrested 29-year-old Samuel Matta Wednesday, an inmate in the state prison in Florence.

Main road into Crown King closed after weekend mudslide
Road closures are a continued headache for drivers heading into Crown King. Thunderstorms on Saturday dumped 6 inches of rain on Crown King and caused a mudslide that forced the closure of Crown King Road, the main thoroughfare into town off Interstate 17.

Phoenix area in top ten of deaths by auto accidents
The Phoenix metro area was ranked in the top ten among metro areas nationwide for the number of people killed in auto crashes in 2009. The numbers come from an analysis done by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
