in per capita earnings, and a new report finds it’s
worse than ever.

School of Business analyzed per capita earnings from 2011, and found that on
average Arizona residents made 19 percent less than the national average in
direct compensation – that’s wages and salaries.

Backers of two ballot referendum petition drives are rapidly approaching deadlines to get them before Arizona voters in 2014. Barry Hess of the Libertarian Party said the Protect Your Right to Vote Committee has collected at least 130,000 signatures in its attempt to block an omnibus election law from taking effect.

Organizers of an initiative campaign for a 2014 ballot
measure to legalize gay marriage in Arizona
are dropping that effort in favor of waiting until 2016. The Equal Marriage Campaign says it had
support but that key national advocacy groups withheld backing that was needed
to make a 2014 ballot measure.

Charges are pending against four juveniles who were arrested for damaging an aviation tower near the Flagstaff airport. Police Sgt. Cody Runge said the four were taken into custody after a stake-out by officers following a string of incidents between May and September of this year.

Tuesday afternoon an Arizona House Committee will hold the
first of an expected series of hearings into the issue of benefits for seasonal
firefighters. Some of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who died fighting the
Yarnell Hill Fire were seasonal employees, meaning their survivors are not entitled
to the same benefits as full-time employees.

Maricopa County prosecutors acknowledge they
did not give a judge a letter that contained information affecting a key
witness' availability for the retrial of a former death row inmate. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Rosa Mroz
had ordered prosecutors to explain why they did not promptly give her a letter
they got from federal prosecutors.

A summer camp that lost five buildings in the Wallow Fire will open
tomorrow at a different facility in Prescott. The damage has temporarily
closed Montlure Presbyterian Church Camp in Greer, where thousands of
Arizona kids have spent summers over the past 80 years.
