It’s hard to know how many veterans returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are suffering from the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. We know that the number receiving government compensation for those conditions went up more than 200 percent in the last decade.

Buyers of the GM Proving Grounds in east Mesa are formulating plans for the area. This includes an adult-living community. NADINE ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: Scottsdale-based home builder AV Homes and the New York investment company Jen Partners recently purchased more than 500 acres of the former GM Proving grounds for $32 million.

The National Hockey League lockout is in its 74th day. The Phoenix Coyotes still don’t have an owner. But there is some good news for hockey in the desert after a decision Tuesday night in Glendale. By a 4-2 vote, the Glendale City Council approved a 20-year, $324 million arena management deal with likely Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison.

More than 500 acres located on the former General Motors proving grounds in Mesa have changed hands and are expected to be turned into homes.The Phoenix Business Journal first reported that Scottsdale-based AV Homes and New York City’s JEN Partners have purchased 527 acres on the site of the former proving grounds for $32.

Home prices in Greater Phoenix rose faster in the past year than in any other metro area.In fact, the Case-Shiller Home-Price Indices show the Phoenix market leading the nation’s housing recovery. The metro area saw a 20 percent jump in housing prices compared to a year ago.

Arizona is appealing a ruling that allows Planned Parenthood to receive public funding through the state to provide health care services to women in need. The state is taking its case to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The Arizona Board of Regents voted Monday to suspend collection of a fee on all university students. The $2-a-semester fee funds the Arizona Students Association and is tacked on to tuition fees. It's not mandatory, but takes a written request within 21 days of the start of classes to opt out.

A university in Northern California has formed an academic institute devoted to marijuana.Humboldt State University’s Institute for Interdisciplinary Marijuana Research plans to sponsor scholarly lectures and coordinate research among 11 faculty members from fields such as economics, geography, politics, psychology and sociology.

The final canvass of votes in Maricopa County was approved Monday. Though the vote count is over, possible changes to the election system could be on the way.  Although some vocal critics who said Maricopa County was tabulating ballots too slowly, County Recorder Helen Purcell said the count actually took one fewer day than in 2008, despite a big bump in early ballots turned in late and far more provisional ballots.
