Blues and Beyond is a unique radio program broadcasting weekly out of Phoenix, Arizona on 91.5 fm, KJZZ. True to its name, Blues and Beyond provides listeners with exposure to newer roots influenced artists as well as some of the blues masters who inspired them, covering the gamut of blues-inspired music including contemporary blues, adult contemporary pop, jam bands, experimental, jazz, fusion, rock, modern acoustic blues, contemporary folk, and juke-joint blues. In addition to anchors of the blues like Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and R.L. Burnside, the show includes such artist as Kelly Joe Phelps, Tom Waits, Ben Harper, Nora Jones, Otis Taylor, Jack Johnson, John Hammond, Robert Bradley?s Blackwater Surprise, Taj Mahal, and the North Mississippi All-Stars. Blues and Beyond highlights the experience and influence of the blues of yesterday...and its continued impact on music of the present and future. In addition to its ground breaking concept, Blues and Beyond delivers an impressive production on the level of most nationally syndicated commercial programs. Past guests appearances by some of todays top musicians like BB King (3 times), Ben Harper, the Persuasions, the late Jimmy Smith, Keb Mo and Jack Johnson, have provided the program with a high level of respect and credibility. The show is produced and hosted by Drew Verbis, a Recording Academy voting member, and professional club DJ with young and edgy ideas that paint a fresh picture of the blues.
