Dear KJZZ and KBAQ listener,
You have probably noticed our surplus of technical problems over the past several days, mostly on KJZZ, but today they spread to KBAQ. The root cause has been the failure of our air conditioning system. Because transmitters generate significant amounts of heat, we have an industrial strength system. At first, it had intermittent problems, and our AC folks thought they had it fixed. They didn't, and the system had a massive (compressor) failure. At the same time, the industrial strength backup system also had a massive failure. If there is any glimmer of good fortune in all of this, it's that both the primary and secondary systems are still under warranty.
A new compressor has been installed in the primary system, and a new compressor for the backup should arrive and be installed by the end of the week.
The problem today is with the microwave system, which transports the signal from the studios to the transmitters. As this is being written, our engineers are still on site working on it. We suspect that the microwave was damaged to some extent during the time we operated with no or reduced air conditioning, and that damage led to the failure today.
Once all the problems are eliminated, we'll review our entire application to see how we might avoid future problems. We apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.
Thank you for your support and for listening.
