Many rushed to the defense of Monica Jones (right) last year after her conviction, including the ACLU and trans actress Laverne Cox (left), of "Orange is the New Black" fame.

A Phoenix transgender activist convicted on a prostitution-related charge last year will get a new day in court. Monica Jones’ conviction was reversed Monday by a Maricopa County Superior Court Judge.

Judge Crane McClennen ruled that the trial court had made multiple errors. Those include admitting evidence of a prior conviction and not holding a jury trial.

Jones’ case got national attention last year, after she was convicted of “manifesting prostitution” after accepting a ride from two undercover cops. They say she flashed her breast at them, which she denies.

A new trial date has not been set.
